In the last two years, we have seen tremendous changes in the corporate world. We have not experience such unemployment situation for decades. Today retrenchment does not only affect the blue collar workers or the low level executives, many middle level managers as well as senior executives have been made redundant. Retrenchment is taking its toll everywhere even in traditional safe haven like financial institutions and the GLCs.
As we are in industry of dealing with people, we have found that many are unprepared to deal with the change. Many corporate HR are often unprepared to manage such changes especially when such changes come in short notice. We have a career management program that will help corporate to prepare their staff for such changes that might be coming their way.
I have been through this before and I know how it feels when you lose your paycheck (my happens to be a five digits paycheck). The stress is tremendous and the thought is frightening. I restarted my career from ground zero. Now more than three years later, my lifestyle is back to normal and in fact I might even say it is better than before. I no longer have to worry about losing my job. I have the freedom to live my life the way I wanted it.
There is nothing you can do to change the corporate restructuring. What one can do is to recognize the trend and more importantly be ready and prepared to deal with the situation when it happens. Corporate HR should be responsible to prepare their staff for such an event. You must be help your employee prepared to cope and manage stress.
